Some hangover..

In what may clearly be the worst case of ‘colonial hangover’ guess which Department in the Delhi Municipality has the responsibility for renewing the Rickshaw pullers’ license in the city…..its the veterinary department!

I had read this in one of the newspapers some months ago and could not believe what I had read. But when I just googled for the same, I found this document which proves the same.

Before the rickshaws, Delhi had many tongas especially around the Walled city. The tonga pullers definitely needed a clearance from the veterinarian to ensure that their horses were fit. However, even when the tongas were subsequently replaced by rickshaws the law seems to have stuck.
