DoE to Host Annual Eco-Clubs Meet and Exhibition

Delhi Government's Eco Clubs Meet in January 2010

The Department of Environment (DoE), Govt. of NCT of Delhi has been successfully running Eco-Clubs in the schools and colleges of Delhi under the National Green Corps (NGC) programme. These Eco-Clubs are playing an important role in creating environmental awareness amongst the future generation.

Over 2000 Eco-Clubs have been established in Government, Aided, Private and Public Schools and Colleges in the NCT of Delhi. The DoE provides a token grant to each Eco Club School/College for undertaking various eco-friendly activities during each academic year.

From time to time, the DoE also hosts meetings of such Eco-Clubs in order to bring together all the green work and inspire more and more students to come forward for green action. The next such Annual “Eco-Meet cum Exhibition” inviting all the eco-club schools/colleges is being organised from December 10-12, 2010 at National Bal Bhawan.

An exhibition of eco-friendly products prepared by various eco-clubs from different schools, colleges, NGOs and environment groups will also be put up during the Meet. Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi Smt. Sheila Dixit will be the chief guest of the Meet.

Dates: 10th to 12th December, 2010
Time: 10 am to 5 pm
Venue: National Bal Bhawan, Kotla Road, Near ITO, New Delhi

The eco-clubs have been successful in motivating students to take up various green initiatives like planting trees, keeping their surroundings clean, waste management, minimize the use of plastic bags and organize Nature Trail in Wild Life Sanctuaries/Parks/Forest areas to learn about our biodiversity. At our own level, Delhi Greens has worked to promote and help set up  eco-clubs at the institutes of many of our interns and volunteers.
