1. Flyovers, pedestrian bridges to go green
Dull and boring concrete structures in the city might soon don a green look with the Delhi Government planning to cover flyovers and pedestrian bridges with creepers, shrubs and potted plants. The Public Works Department has drawn up a proposal under which 70 flyovers and pedestrian bridges will be beautified in a phased manner.

3. Ghazipur landfill site to house power plant
With the Ghazipur landfill site unable to take in more waste, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has decided to empty part of it in the next three years. The site contains 46 lakh metric tonnes of garbage that will be segregated and used for generating energy.

8. Irked by ‘motivated’ petition, Green Tribunal imposes penalty
Irked by a “frivolous” and “motivated” litigation, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has slapped a cost of Rs 50,000 on a person who first challenged the environmental clearance granted to a thermal power plant in Madhya Pradesh but later withdrew his plea saying the project was good for development of the region.
9. India opposes UN panel’s ‘back door’ for green caps
A high-profile panel of the United Nation Secretary General (UNSG) on Global Sustainability has recommended that the world adopt sustainable development targets. The move has been opposed by India and several other developing countries as creating a backdoor for caps on emissions and green targets, while breaching the firewall between developing and rich countries that is enshrined in the Rio declaration and the UN convention on climate change.
