1. Allow cars and autos on BRT bus lane: High court
The Delhi high court on Thursday gave its green signal for cars and autorickshaws to ply on the bus lane of the otherwise congested and accident-prone bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor between Ambedkar Nagar and Moolchand in south Delhi on experimental basis for six weeks.
Built to promote public transport, the bus rapid transit corridor was touted as a “green corridor” by the Delhi government when it came up in 2008. The idea was that increased usage of public transport would bring down reliability on private vehicles, and thus the resultant emissions, especially as buses were CNG-powered.
3. Make a drain of a river, throw crores down it
Eighteen years ago, the Supreme Court took note of a news report published in Hindustan Times on the dirty Yamuna. Two weeks back, a bench headed by the Chief Justice of India spoke of its intention to pass orders to stop discharge of untreated sewage into the river. But before that, the court wanted an update on the case and asked the agencies involved to file status reports.
4. Delhi Gurdwaras to go solar and ban plastic disposables
Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee will make Gurdwaras under its management solar powered and Nagar Kirtans plastic-free and clean. DSGMC president Paramjit Singh Sarna told TOI on Friday that in all the 16 Gurdwara’s managed by DSGMC , the sangat was informed about their eco drive and was encouraged to plant trees and save water at homes.
5. Budget 2012: Auto industry welcomes incentives to promote hybrid vehicles
Indian automobile industry today welcomed the government’s various tax incentives provided in the Budget to promote manufacturing of environment-friendly hybrid vehicles in the country.
6. Budget 2012-13 allocates only Rs 2,430 crore for Environment and Forests Ministry
The Union Budget is less green as compared to last year with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee increasing the allocation for the Environment and Forests ministry by a marginal Rs 130 crore this time.
