DST Calls for Applications for Science (Biodiversity) Communicators

The Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt. of India is looking for science communicators with key skills in the field of biodiversity to come on board its Science Express project! The Science Express is a unique exhibition train, traveling across India. After four successful tours, its next phase will be a “Biodiversity Special” and will travel to around 55 locations across India between June to December 2012. The objective of the Science Express is to develop awareness about biodiversity, climate change and similar issues among students and general public. The DST has entrusted the Vikram A Sarabhai Community Science Centre, Ahmedabad to manage this project.

The job position is open to young science postgraduate/graduate students or equivalent, preferably with experience in science communication, environment education and having excellent computer and communication skills and knowledge of multiple Indian languages. The candidate should be adventurous, self motivated and medically fit for long and continuous travel on train. The roles that the selected candidates will have to play include, among others, conducting visitors and interpreting exhibits for them, disseminating information, conducting hands-on activities and teachers’ training on the train, on platforms and in local schools besides facilitating local coordination at halts, managing publicity, etc.

A consolidated salary in the range of Rs.14,000/- to 18,000/- per month, depending on qualifications and experience, plus a daily allowance will be paid to the selected candidates who will need to join immediately. The appointment will be short term of up to seven months duration, co-terminus with the project. The job involves continuous travel and stay on the train. Interviews for the position will be conducted in different parts of the country and only shortlisted candidates will be called for the interviews, at short notice.
