The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) Earth Heroes Awards is an attempt to bring recognition and honour to individuals and institutions who work exceptionally hard to preserve and protect our critical ecosystems.

The awards, institutes since 2011, have been an effective platform for award recipients to display their work to a larger audience and potentially expand the scope of their work from the recognition and networking that accrued.

The nominations are received from across the country and the winners are decided by an eminent jury comprising experts from the field of wildlife conservation, biodiversity management, science, government, media and The Royal Bank of Scotland N.V.

The award are under a total of five categories and RBS now invites nominations from all interested for these awards. The categories are:

1. RBS ‘ Earth Guardian’ Award  (INR 1,50,000) – Institution

This award recognizes an institution (NGO/Corporate/Government) that has made exceptional contributions in the field of conservation of wildlife, human life and property in wild habitats, natural resource management, environment, wildlife research and awareness building.

2. RBS ‘Save The Species’ Award (INR 1,50,000 each)– 2 Individuals

This award recognizes an individual who has been involved, directly or indirectly, in protecting any endangered species and has also contributed to education, awareness programs, capacity building and resolving man-animal conflict.

3. RBS ‘Inspire’ Award – (INR 1,50,000) Individual or Institutional

This award recognizes an individual (journalist/filmmaker/artist) who has inspired action on conservation of wildlife, natural resource management and environmental protection through his/her creative expression.

4. RBS ‘Green Warrior’ Award – (INR 1,50,000 each) 2 individuals

This award recognizes two individuals who have done commendable work in conservation of wildlife, natural resource management, environment protection, human lives and property.

5. RBS ‘Earth Hero’ Award – Nominations are not invited for this ‘main’ award as the winner is selected by the RBS Jury. The RBS ‘Earth Hero’ 2014 was chosen to be Mr. Erach Bharucha, Conservation Educationist who has played a significant role in promoting environmental education in India.
