The National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) will be organising a painting competition on the occasion of World Environment Day on 5th June, 2016. The painting competition is open to school students and is themed on, Go Wild for Life – Zero Tolerance for the Illegal Wildlife Trade.

The theme is as part of the campaign initiated by the United Nations in which Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez has already expressed her solidarity.

Illegal Trade in Wildlife is one of many threats to species, which include habitat loss due to land transformation for agriculture and development, human-wildlife conflict caused by animals and humans being pushed closer together as wild ranges disappear, climate change and over consumption or unsustainable use.

At the heart of illegal trade is the unsustainable demand for wildlife and wildlife products, which in turn motivates both opportunistic poaching and harvesting and organized crime. These species and many others need your help.

The contest will be organized in two categories. Category I includes children studying in Class VI to VIII while category II will include children studying in Class IX to XII. NMNH will provide Drawing Sheets and the students will need to bring their own drawing boards and colouring/painting materials.

Interested participants may register through e-mail by sending an email to: nmnh.edu5678@gmail.com

Registration will be done for a maximum of 200 children on first come first serve basis.

Other details of the competition and registration forms is available on the NMNH website and can be downloaded by clicking here.
