The Mumbai International Airport Ltd. (MIAL), the company that administers GVK Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA), planted tree saplings on 1 July 2016 on the occasion of Van Mahotsav. During the entire week from 1st to 7th July 2016, MIAL planted saplings around the airport premises.

The saplings include Pink Trumpet Tree (Tabebuia Rosea) and Fern tree (Filicium Decipience) varieties that are of flowering category. The company also committed to make tree plantation a regular activity in the months to come.

Started in 1950 by the Ministry of Agriculture, Van Mahotsav (Forest Festival) is an annual tree-planting festival held across India from July 1 to 7. This year the Government of Maharashtra aims to plant 2 crore saplings across the state during Van Mahostav.

Planting trees across the state and conserving the environment is the first step in addressing the issue of climate change and protecting the ecosystem. MIAL is a socially responsible organization and sustainability remains a constant endeavor in all of its projects and initiatives.

It is for this reason that the Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Ltd. (MIAL) was recently awarded the prestigious Gold certification at the GreenCo Summit 2016 held in Hyderabad. The award was received by Mr. Narendra Hosabettu, Senior Vice President Environment, MIAL at the hands of Mr. Nitin Desai, member of Prime Minister’s Council on Climate Change, at the fifth edition of the summit organized by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).

The company was awarded the certification for attaining an industry benchmark for exemplary work in the areas of Environmental Management (water conservation, waste management, and greenhouse gases emission), Energy Management (efficiency and renewable energy), Green Supply Chain, Material Conservation, Recycling, and other green initiatives undertaken by the company.

The Greenco Rating  is a system initiated by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) that assesses and analyses the environmental impact of the company’s activities or operations towards ecologically sustainable business growth.
