Six Websites to Find Out Real Time Air Quality Index Around You in Delhi

Green Alert
The air pollution in Delhi has reached alarming proportions and every winter brings with it lung diseases, asthmatic attacks, coughing, teary eyes and long queues of the sick and elderly at hospitals complaining of chest congestion. Everything from vehicular exhaust, to bursting of crackers during Diwali, the burning of crop residue in nearby states of Punjab & Haryana, burning of leaves and waste and the ongoing construction work contributes to the air pollution in Delhi. Temperature inversion during the winter months does not let these pollutants get dispersed easily and they linger on for longer periods in Delhi's air. The trend is not new and a graded response by the Government to address Delhi's air pollution problem also does not seem to be helping. Thus, it does not seem ...

Can Delhi Afford to Pollute This Diwali?

The festival of Diwali marks the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. The festival has always been an occasion for celebrating happiness, prosperity and well being of one and all. However, the situation in Delhi today is such that the celebrations revolving around this festival are becoming a threat to the health and well being of the society at large. Take, for example, the sweets which are manufactured and distributed specifically to meet the high demand during Diwali. The news of toxic laden ingredients as well as chemical treated dry fruits etc. becomes the talk of the town days before the onset of the festival preparations. The consumption of sweets and other eatables made from these ingredients leads to considerable loss of health and happi...

File photo: Rajendera Singh being interviewed by Swiss media over the Satyagrah against the construction of the CWG Village on the Yamuna floodplain in Delhi. Bapu was witness to the Satyagrah (that did not work) for protecting the Yamuna throughout and also to the inundation of his Samadhi (consequently) with the Yamuna water this season On behalf of the Delhi Greens organisation, the DG Blog wishes all our readers heartiest greetings on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. As far as I can remember, every Gandhi Jayanti since my childhood days was celebrated by cleaning the colony and nearby areas. Me and my friends used to come together and join the elders in the clean up drive. After the tiring ordeal, we would all have refreshments together in the colony playground. None of us, me and my...

All for Clean Air: The Suckers at Delhi Government

An outdoor air purifying system made by Italian company Systemlife and installed at Connaught Place by NDMC is symbolic of cluelessness that prevails in the higher echelons of the government. I returned home this morning, after an interview with a German researcher on Delhi government's climate initiatives, to find a newspaper report which made a perfect specimen for the central argument I tried to put across in the meeting -- the Delhi govt, just like its counterpart in the centre, has no clue what they are talking about, no clue about the scale of the climate crisis, what needs to be done and how ineffective will be their so-called plan. The newspaper report I'm referring to touted "CP’s air cleaner than before" because of an outdoor air purifier installed there for the last month
