  The World Day to Combat Desertification (WDCD) is observed worldwide on 17 June every year since 1994. It is a unique occasion to remind everybody that desertification can be effectively tackled through strengthened community participation and co-operation at all levels. The World Day to Combat Desertification this year is being celebrated with the theme, "attainment of food security for all through sustainable food systems." The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India invites entries on the occasion of World Day to Combat Desertification to be celebrated on June 17, 2015 in New Delhi. The Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi will initiate a tree plantation campaign on June 5, the World Environment Day! What's more, the first sapling will be planted by the Hon'ble Prime Minister at his official residence, 7 RCR. To commemorate World Environment Day further, the Indian Cricket captain Virat Kohli and international wrestler Sushil Kumar will also join in and plant saplings at Paryavaran Bhawan.
