Finnish Startup Launches Satellite to Monitor Climate Change

Global
A pioneering Finnish nano satellite has now reached space equipped with the world's smallest infrared hyper-spectral camera. The photos with infrared data taken from the satellite provide new solutions for monitoring and managing the effects of climate change. The hyperspectral camera is a trailblazing innovation from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. The Reaktor Hello World nano satellite was launched into space on 29 November 2018 by the Finnish space technology startup Reaktor Space Lab. In the past, hyper-spectral imaging - the simultaneous collection of the optical spectrum at each point in an image - was feasible only with larger, exorbitantly priced satellites. The larger satellites also came with significant restrictions: a single satellite provides new data only whe...

Training on Open Source Quantum GIS

Events, Green Jobs
Owing to the utility of geospatial tools in all fields of sustainable management of resources, Geographic Information System (GIS) has become one of the indispensable tools for studies, research and policy framework. The cost of the available GIS softwares and skilled human resource are among the major hurdles to use this tool. The Open Source GIS software is one of the convenient ways to overcome such issues. With this realization, TERI University, New Delhi in collaboration with kCube, Chennai is planning to organize Training Program on Open Source GIS – Quantum GIS. This will provide a structure route to spatial and non-spatial database generation, management, analysis and decision making. The training will be organized in two stages for different user group: For GIS
