1. Brakes on new industries in NOIDA
The National Green Tribunal, New Delhi, has asked the environment ministry not to give clearance to any new industrial units in Noida. The tribunal has ordered that no operating unit should be permitted to expand or change product mix. The consent to establish and operate, in case of defaulting units, should be granted only after obtaining permission from the tribunal.
2. Noida Entrepreneurs’ Association writes to allow setting up of industries
After the National Green Tribunal’s order directing that no new industries be set up or expanded in Noida without its approval, the Noida Entrepreneurs’ Association (NEA) has written to it to re-consider its decision. The association has argued that pollution levels in the city have increased not due to more industries but due to a hike in population and vehicles.

A panel set up to review norms for no-go areas that will protect certain areas from commercial activity is likely to recommend mining should be disallowed in all national parks and wildlife sanctuaries in the country.
5. Environment Ministry ‘wrongly viewed’ as stumbling block: Jayanthi Natarajan
Environment Ministry is “wrongly viewed” as a stumbling block for industrial and mining sectors despite the fact that it has given clearance for coal mining and setting up of power plants way beyond the 12th Plan, Union Minister Jayanthi Natarajan said today.
6. Government aims to add 10,000 MW hydro power by 2017
Power Ministry has set a target of adding 10,000 MW of hydro power generation capacity in the country in the next five years. “Geological surprises in hydro are a major cause of concern but we are hoping to add 10,000 MW in the 12th plan period (2012-17),” Power Secretary Uma Shankar said.
