General Motors Conducts PUC Drive on Environment Day

Automobile giant General Motors (GM) organised various activities focusing on environment safety and conservation on World Environment Day 2016. The day was also marked with a pledge to spread awareness around environment protection, sustenance and eco-conscious growth.

Chief among these activities was the collaboration of General Motors with the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) to organize PUC drives across its dealerships PAN India. Other unique initiatives taken to celebrate World Environment Day 2016 included providing environment conservation tips to customers, sapling distribution, tree plantations, green processions and awareness rallies.

The objective of these drives was to create awareness among motorists so they could take those little steps towards reducing their carbon footprint which have large global benefits. GM also feels that giving proper knowledge to customers about proper maintenance of their vehicles will provide benefit to the customers as well as to our environment.

On World Environment Day, the company has also pledged to work towards raising awareness on Lakes and Lake Maintenance in Bangalore. Being conscious of the critical role wetlands play in maintaining a healthy environment, the initiative will provide an opportunity for the participants to play role as environmental stewards.

Speaking on these initiatives, Swati Bhattacharya, Vice President, Corporate Communications, General Motors India, highlighted, “General Motors has always been committed to its care for the environment and it is our endeavour to enhance public awareness towards key environmental issues. These activities reiterate GM’s continuing commitment towards a clean and green environment initiative.”

The World Environment Day celebrations at GM India began as early as 31st May 2016 and will continue till 15th June 2016. A series of in-house activities have been planned, encouraging employees to join hands for the Green Initiative including Cleanliness drive at Ghoravdeshwar Mountain, NH4 Highway, Pune and Tree plantation at GM India Premises.
