Release of Forest Survey of India Report 2022

Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav at the release of India State of Forest Report 2021 in New Delhi on 13 January, 2022. Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) Leena Nandan and other dignitaries are also seen.

Sharing the findings, the Minister informed that the total forest and tree cover of the country is 80.9 million hectare as of 2021, which is 24.62 percent of the geographical area of the country. As compared to the assessment of 2019, there is an increase of 2,261 sq. km in the total forest and tree cover of India.

The Minister expressed happiness that 17 states/ UTs of India have above 33 percent of the geographical area under forest cover. He informed that the focus of the Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is not just to conserve the forests quantitatively but to also enrich it qualitatively.
