Finance Minister Performs Yoga at Jantar Mantar on IDY

The International Day of Yoga (IDY) is being observed by the United Nations since 2015. The day is celebrated worldwide on 21st June every year. The theme for the 2022 year edition of Yoga Day was Yoga for Humanity. The theme portrays how Yoga served humanity in alleviating suffering during COVID pandemic. The International Day of Yoga was celebrated worldwide and across India including by almost all the government agencies and ministries.

The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighting the benefits of doing Yoga in everyday life while joining the celebrations at Jantar Mnatar. She also acknowledged the role of the Prime Minister and said, “The celebration of Yoga today is the result of the active participation, active taking up and going over the entire world with the idea of Yoga by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.”

The Finance Minister shared how Yoga is a typical example of so much that India has to offer. She was happy to note that the efforts of the Government of India at the United Nations have been able to provide the much needed recognition to Yoga as a global knowledge asset which it really is. Further highlighting the importance of Yoga she said, “Yoga is a very evolved, mind and body unifying exercise. It is one of the biggest assets of India. Over the millennia, it has been practiced by those who were aware of its virtues and has remained intact. There has been no corrosion to its inherent teachings. The way it has been practiced also stays intact.”

The Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu today joined the International Yoga Day celebrations along with hundreds of other participants at a Ministry of Tourism event in Secunderabad. The Vice President performed Yoga and addressed the participants during the programme.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated along with thousands of participants in a Mass Yoga Demonstration at Mysore Palace Ground, Mysuru. The Governor of Karnataka Thawar Chand Gehlot, State Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal were among those present on the occasion. Quoting Indian sages the Prime Minister emphasized, “Yoga brings peace for us. The peace from yoga is not merely for individuals. Yoga brings peace to our society. Yoga brings peace to our nations and the world. And, Yoga brings peace to our universe.”

Minister of State (MoS) for Environment Ashwini Kumar Choubey joined the celebrations and performed Yoga at Inche Monastery in Sikkim, Gangtok along with the State Governor Ganga Prasad and State Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang. The MoS did not fail to recognize the efforts of the Prime Minister because of which the world has been given this priceless gift of Indian culture. He was happy to note that the whole world has adopted Yoga today.
