InterGlobe Heritage Fellowships 2025 Now Open

If you are someone who finds meaning in the fading stories of traditions, rituals and forgotten craft practices woven around India’s magnificent heritage sites, here’s an exciting opportunity to bring those narratives back to life. The InterGlobe Foundation, the philanthropic arm of InterGlobe Enterprises, has announced the fourth edition of the InterGlobe HERITAGE Fellowships — and applications are now open.

This year’s theme focuses on ‘associated intangible heritage’ and ‘associated craft traditions’ linked to built heritage sites across India. From folk performances in temple courtyards to age-old weaving styles preserved in pockets of historical towns, the fellowship invites you to uncover the less-seen cultural narratives that breathe life into the stone and mortar of India’s past.

What Is the Fellowship About?

Launched in 2022, the InterGlobe HERITAGE Fellowships are designed to encourage researchers, journalists, architects, artists, and creative professionals to explore India’s cultural fabric beyond the architectural lens. The aim is to treat heritage sites not just as static monuments, but as dynamic spaces shaped by communities, traditions, rituals, and oral histories.

Selected fellows will receive support to document these narratives through photo essays, written pieces, illustrations, or other creative formats over a period of three to six months, depending on the project scope.

A Platform for Untold Stories

Past fellows have uncovered lesser-known yet rich traditions like:

  • Folk theatre practices in Kashmir (Bhand Pather)

  • Musical rituals at Rudranath Temple

  • The endangered art of Ghat Chhatris in Varanasi

  • Tribal festivals (Jatharas) in Telangana

  • Rare musical instruments like Shreekhol, Taus, and Nafiri

  • Cultural practices around the Lonar Crater in Maharashtra

These projects have not only documented fading traditions but also highlighted the significance of everyday cultural actors—craftspeople, performers, temple caretakers, and storytellers—whose knowledge has long remained outside formal conservation frameworks.

Why It Matters

As Rohini Bhatia, Chairperson of InterGlobe Foundation, puts it:

“The focus on intangible heritage and craft traditions is particularly exciting as it allows us to uncover and celebrate the cultural practices that breathe life into our built heritage.”

The fellowship offers a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to heritage preservation, while also building awareness and appreciation for India’s diverse cultural stories in new, creative ways.

Whether you’re a researcher passionate about cultural studies, an artist eager to delve into the invisible layers of history, or a storyteller committed to preserving India’s traditions — this fellowship could be your platform to make heritage come alive.
