Ultratech Inducts India’s First Heavy‑Duty EV Truck

UltraTech Cement Limited has inducted India’s first PM E-DRIVE-certified electric heavy-duty truck into its logistics operations. The vehicle was supplied by Montra Electric, the electric medium and heavy commercial vehicle division of the Murugappa Group.

The company has progressively expanded the use of alternative fuels within its transport operations over the past several years. UltraTech introduced compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks in 2021, followed by liquefied natural gas (LNG) trucks in 2022, and began deploying electric trucks in 2024. These efforts have been carried out in collaboration with logistics partners to reduce reliance on diesel-powered transport.

As of now, UltraTech operates a fleet comprising more than 540 CNG trucks, 60 LNG trucks, and over 15 electric trucks across 17 manufacturing units. The addition of electric heavy-duty trucks represents a further step in the company’s ongoing transition toward lower-emission logistics and alternative fuel adoption within its supply chain.
