Volunteer: YP Foundation’s Butterfly Project

The YP Foundation (formerly the Youth Parliament) is a not-for-profit, non political, support and learning organisation committed to developing the uninhibited expression of young people, and working with the aim of sustaining a platform that enables young people to be effective and expressive agents of change.

The YP Foundation is currently expanding the work it is doing with film and is looking for people (in Delhi) who would like to volunteer with its Butterfly project.

The Butterfly Project – Working with Film

The Butterfly Project is a project run by The YP Foundation that provides young people with spaces that explore resources and innovative avenues with literature and film. The project is based on the distinct philosophy of The Butterfly Effect – that sometimes – unexpected change can be instituted by the smallest of movements.

The organisation primarily works through

The Film Series (a space to promote the skills and talent of amateur and professional filmmakers) and
The Bridge (an independent magazine for young people)

Last year (2007) The Butterfly Project curated a National Film Festival that featured the work of 11 filmmakers at the IHC in March. The next project was a collaboration with Centre for Civil Society for Jeevika 2007 – A South Asian Livelihood Documentary Film Festival where The YP Foundation (then The Youth Parliament) came on board as a partner. The work done was primarily Design Work, PR, Publicity and Event Curation, in addition to working with a rock band and a street play as well.

The YP Foundation’s forthcoming event is “Revisiting Jeevika” in February 2008, which is a one-day film festival screening Jeevika films from over the past 4-5 years. The festival is scheduled in the first week of February.

Consequently, The YP Foundation is looking for volunteers for this event as well as for building a team of people who would be interested in working with the Butterfly Project.
