About the Festival and Theme

The CMS Vatavaran festival was initiated in the year 2002. The fifth CMS Vatavaran Competitive Film Festival was organised in 2009 and had then attracted 366 entries from 20 Indian states and 23 foreign countries. The Delhi Greens Blog has promoted the CMS Vatavaran Film Festival since its inception year in 2007 and has covered their expanding popularity over the years. The Delhi Greens Blog was the official online partner of CMS Vatavaran last year.

The objective of the CMS Vatavaran Competition and Festival is to use films as a means for engaging diverse audiences on the theme of pollution and to spur change through creativity. The Festival will showcase shortlisted films from the Competition during the 10th CMS VATAVARAN Film Festival and Forum on Environment and Wildlife, between November 27-30, 2019.

The theme of CMS Vatarvaran Film Festival this year is Air Pollution. This is also the theme of the World Environment Day (WED) this year. Environment Day is being celebrated on 5 June since 1974 globally to make positive contributions and direct efforts for environmental protection.

Each year, WED comes up with a theme that throws light on the most pressing concerns related to the environment. The chosen theme for this competition reflects the 2019 WED theme, Air Pollution – a modern day curse that has been highlighted by the World Health Organization as the greatest environmental risk to human health.
