Viasat launches Space for Good India Challenge 2026

Calling all college & university students! Applications are now open for the 2026 Viasat: Space for Good India Challenge, a national competition that invites students to develop innovative space-based solutions for real-world challenges.
Viasat Inc., a global leader in satellite communications, has launched this competition under the company’s global STEM initiative designed to inspire university students to develop sustainable space solutions that improve life on Earth. Gautam Sharma, Managing Director, India at Viasat said, “The response to last year’s program in India exceeded our expectations, showcasing the incredible ingenuity and ambition of students across the country. With the return of Viasat: Space for Good in 2026, we are building on that strong foundation—expanding opportunities for students to explore bold ideas that can transform space technologies while addressing real-world challenges.”
Participants can explore ideas in areas such as satellite communications, IoT, direct-to-device connectivity, disaster response, and sustainable access to space. The challenge is open to individual university students across India. The competition will unfold across three phases:
- Phase 1 (Written Submission): 8 June – 19 July, 2026
- Phase 2 (3-Minute Digital Submission): 3 August – 23 August, 2026
- Phase 3 Opens (Finalist Presentations Preparation): 7 September, 2026
- Finals Week: 24 October 24 – 7 October, 2026
- Final Presentations & Awards: 27 October, 2026
Prizes:
• 1st Place: ₹5 lakh
• 2nd Place: ₹3.75 lakh
• 3rd Place: ₹2.75 lakh

Thirty students will advance to the second round, with six finalists receiving mentorship from Viasat experts before presenting to an industry judging panel.
